Free Welcome Gifts for Expectant Parents in Germany: My Personal Guide (With Photos & Real Experiences)

When I was pregnant in Germany, I was overwhelmed by how many companies promised “free gifts for expectant parents”. But which ones actually send something worth it? Which are easy to claim?

I signed up for almost all the popular programs and collected the gifts myself — from diapers and skincare samples to personalized keepsakes. This is my real, step-by-step experience on how to register and what you’ll actually get.

Whether you’re still expecting or your baby has already arrived, this guide shows all the current free baby gift programs in Germany at a glance.

Part 1 — Free Gifts You Can Claim Before Birth

1. DM Glückskind — Reliable & Practical

Which Drugstore in Germany Offers Free Baby Gifts?

Among all German drugstores, dm (Drogerie Markt) is one of the most generous and reliable when it comes to free baby gifts — not in one big box, but through ongoing, practical giveaways over time.

  • To receive free baby gifts from dm, you first need to register as a customer on the dm website. After that, log in to your account and sign up for the Glückskind program, where you enter your baby’s expected due date.
  • Once registered, it is essential to download the dm app, as all free gifts and coupons appear there. Whenever a gift is available, you must activate the voucher in the app and show it at the checkout in a dm store to receive the item.
  • If you already have a Payback card, make sure to link it to your dm account. This way, you can collect Payback points directly through the app when shopping at dm.
  • dm also regularly shares short pregnancy-related articles and tips through the app. More importantly, they offer useful free baby items from time to time.

What Free Gifts Did I Receive from dm?

After registering at the end of 2022, I received two free gifts in January 2023:

  • A multi-purpose muslin cloth
  • A pack of baby wet wipes

After my baby was born, additional free gifts continued to appear in the app occasionally, which could be redeemed in store using activated vouchers.

Summary:
dm’s Glückskind program may not offer a large one-time baby box, but it provides consistent, practical free gifts throughout pregnancy and after birth, making it one of the most worthwhile programs in Germany.

2. Rossmann Babywelt – Simple, Fast & Generous

Register now: https://www.rossmann.de/de/babywelt

Which Drugstore in Germany Offers the Most Practical Baby Gift Box?

If you are looking for a large, one-time baby welcome box, Rossmann is one of the most practical and generous drugstores in Germany when it comes to free baby gifts.

After registering on the Rossmann website, download the Rossmann app on your phone. In my experience, within about one week, a voucher for a free baby gift box appeared in the app.

To receive the gift, simply go to the checkout at any Rossmann store and show the activated voucher in your app. You will then receive a large baby welcome box directly at the counter.

The contents are generous and very straightforward — no complicated steps, no long waiting time.

What Free Gifts Did I Receive from Rossmann?

In January 2023, I received a baby gift box containing:

  • a portable toiletry bag
  • a Philips baby bottle
  • baby socks
  • sanitary pads
  • a pregnancy oil sample
  • a small bottle of baby detergent

Overall, Rossmann offers one of the most generous free baby gift boxes in Germany, making it especially useful for first-time parents.

Summary

Rossmann’s baby program focuses on a one-time, well-filled baby gift box with many practical items. If you prefer a simple and generous welcome package without ongoing app monitoring, Rossmann is an excellent choice.

3. HiPP Mein BabyClub – Personal & Thoughtful

Register now: https://www.hipp.de/

Which Baby Brand in Germany Sends the Most Unexpected Free Gifts?

Among all baby brands in Germany, HiPP offers some of the most unexpected and emotionally meaningful free gifts — not necessarily the most generous in quantity, but memorable in a very personal way.

HiPP primarily provides discount coupons for purchases on its own website. Compared to the 10% store-wide discounts offered by Rossmann, these online coupons are relatively limited.

Occasionally, HiPP also sends informational brochures by mail, which can be useful if you enjoy reading more about baby nutrition and early development.

In the very first mailing from HiPP, I received many printed product coupons. These are worth keeping carefully, as they can be used later in dm or Rossmann stores — especially helpful when buying formula or diapers.

HiPP sends their gifts in two separate mailings.

What Free Gifts Did I Receive from HiPP?

First Gift (During Pregnancy): The first gift was very special: a pregnancy journal with my name printed on the cover. This journal allows you to record your thoughts and experiences during pregnancy and even attach ultrasound photos of your baby. It was one of my favorite gifts, as it felt personal and meaningful rather than purely practical.

Second Gift (After Birth): The second gift was more typical and included:

  • a sample diaper
  • a small bottle of HiPP baby massage oil (sample size)

Summary

HiPP’s free gifts may not be the most generous in terms of quantity, but they stand out through personalization and emotional value. Especially the personalized pregnancy journal makes HiPP’s BabyClub one of the most memorable free baby programs in Germany.

4. Amazon Baby Wishlist – Gift After First Purchase

Register now: https://www.amazon.de/baby-reg

Which Free Baby Gift in Germany Allows You to Choose the Product Yourself?

If you prefer choosing your own free baby gift instead of receiving a fixed box, the Amazon Baby Registry is one of the most flexible options available in Germany.

The Amazon Baby Registry can be created at any time. To qualify for the free gift, you need to make your first purchase of at least €20 from your baby wishlist.

After meeting this requirement, you can select a free baby gift worth up to €16. The most valuable option is usually a diaper bin, which many parents have successfully received.

I personally chose baby wet wipes instead. Although the diaper bin has a higher retail value, it requires ongoing purchases of special refill bags, which makes it less cost-effective in the long run.

Summary

The Amazon Baby Registry stands out for its freedom of choice. If you prefer selecting a useful item based on your actual needs rather than receiving a predefined gift box, this program is a practical and flexible option for expectant parents in Germany.

5. Doppelherz – A Small Gift for Your Health

Register now: https://www.doppelherz.de/

Which Baby Brand in Germany Offers a Small but Meaningful Free Gift?

If you value practical support over large gift boxes, Doppelherz offers a small but thoughtful free gift for expectant mothers in Germany.

After registering on the Doppelherz website, I received a small package about two weeks later.

The package contained a box of Doppelherz Schwangere + Mutter Vegan — a supplement with 5 tablets, designed to support pregnant women and new mothers, including folic acid.

Summary

Doppelherz does not offer a large welcome box, but instead provides a targeted and useful supplement. While the gift is small, it carries clear practical value and reflects a thoughtful approach to supporting expectant mothers.

6. BabyOne – Welcome Box Without Purchase

Register now:https://www.babyone.de/welcome-box

Which Baby Store in Germany Offers a Large Free Welcome Gift Without Any Purchase?

BabyOne is known for offering a very generous baby welcome gift, and one important detail makes it stand out: no in-store purchase is required to receive the gift.

After registering on the BabyOne website, you will receive an email containing a digital membership card along with a list of BabyOne store locations in different cities.

To receive the free baby welcome gift, simply bring this email to a BabyOne store. No purchase is required.

The welcome package itself is considered very generous and well-filled.

Important Note About My Experience

I personally learned about this free BabyOne gift after my baby was already born in 2024, when a close friend shared the information with me. Unfortunately, I missed the opportunity to receive this welcome package myself.

The photos shown are shared by my friend, not items I personally collected. However, based on her experience, this is one of the largest free baby gift packages currently available in Germany.

Summary

BabyOne offers a substantial free baby welcome gift without any purchase obligation, making it especially attractive for expectant parents who register in time. Even though I personally missed this gift, it is widely regarded as one of the most generous baby welcome packages in Germany.

Part 2: Gifts After Birth

1. Kaufland Familienmomente – Personal & Well-Planned

Register now: https://www.kaufland.de/
Program details & steps: https://filiale.kaufland.de/familienmomente.html

Which Supermarket in Germany Offers the Most Thoughtful Free Baby Gifts?

Among German supermarkets, Kaufland stands out for offering particularly thoughtful and personalized free baby gifts, especially after your baby is born.

To receive free baby gifts from Kaufland, you first need to register an account on the Kaufland website. After that, visit the Familienmomente page to follow the detailed steps.

You must download the Kaufland app, log in using the same account, and register your baby’s information in the app. Only after completing these steps are you eligible to receive the gifts.

Important Registration Notes

It is important to know that Kaufland’s physical store loyalty card system and the Kaufland website/app operate as two separate systems. Even though Kaufland acquired the former real.de online platform, the in-store card and online accounts do not share customer data.

This means that you must register again on the Kaufland website, even if you already have a Kaufland card for shopping in physical stores.

During registration, you are required to enter your baby’s expected due date and the baby’s name. Because a name is required, there is no need to register too early — signing up closer to the due date makes more sense.

What Free Gifts Did I Receive from Kaufland?

The gifts I received from Kaufland included several small items. The most thoughtful one was a personalized baby bath towel embroidered with my baby’s name. There was also a height-measuring wall chart, which turned out to be very practical.

Summary

Kaufland’s Familienmomente program focuses on personalized and emotionally meaningful gifts rather than sheer quantity. Especially the name-embroidered bath towel makes this one of the most thoughtful free baby gift programs in Germany, particularly after the baby is born.

2. Müller meinBaby – Coupons by Post & Gifts

Register now: https://www.mueller.de/meinbaby/mitgliederbereich/anmeldung/

Which Drugstore in Germany Sends a Baby Welcome Gift by Mail?

Among German drugstores, Müller is special because part of its baby welcome gifts are sent by post, including a redemption code for an in-store baby gift package.

After registering on the Müller website, download the Müller app. In the app, you can access exclusive meinBaby member coupons, special promotions, and occasional prize draws.

What Happens Before the Due Date?

About one month before the expected due date, Müller sends a letter by mail. This letter includes:

  • A redemption code for the baby welcome gift (to be redeemed in-store)
  • A €5 store voucher
  • Additional discount coupons for baby products

These coupons are genuinely useful, especially for everyday baby essentials.

What Did I Receive from Müller?

Together with the coupons, I received the Müller baby welcome gift package. Inside were two disposable changing pads, which turned out to be very practical.

The small storage pouch included in the gift is perfect for holding changing pads and diapers when going out. After my baby started daycare, I noticed that almost every mom had the same pouch, which says a lot about how useful it is.

Summary

Müller’s meinBaby program combines postal mail, in-app coupons, and an in-store baby welcome gift. The gifts may not be extravagant, but they are highly practical and widely used by parents, making Müller one of the most reliable baby programs in Germany.

3. Lidl Babyclub – The Most Generous and Down-to-Earth Baby Gift

Register now: https://www.lidl.de/

After registering on the Lidl website, you need to activate Lidl Plus / Lidl Club in your account and enter your baby’s details, such as name and date of birth.

Once your baby is born, Lidl will send the free baby gift directly to the home address you registered in Lidl Plus.

Among all the baby gifts I received, Lidl’s package was by far the heaviest and most substantial.
Not small trial sizes, not symbolic samples – but a large pack of diapers, plus full-size baby care products.

Compared with stores like Rossmann, where most items are sample-sized, Lidl’s gift feels genuinely practical and honest.
You can actually use everything right away, without needing to buy replacements immediately.

If you value real products over marketing samples, Lidl’s baby gift is absolutely worth registering for.

4. Bebivita Sonnenaktion – Earn Points & Win Gifts

Register now: https://www.bebivita.de/

Bebivita is a baby food manufacturer, similar to HiPP. After registering as a club member, you can take part in their “Sun Collection” reward program.

By regularly visiting the website and participating in activities such as:

  • writing product reviews

  • joining small flea market bids

  • answering short product-related questions

  • or uploading photos of your baby

you can collect “little suns” (points). Once you reach a certain number, these points can be exchanged for small gifts.

That said, this system clearly requires continuous participation and a bit of discipline.
During pregnancy, I often simply forgot to log in and collect the suns, so I personally didn’t end up receiving a gift.

Bebivita’s program is therefore best suited for parents who enjoy interacting online and don’t mind checking in regularly. If you prefer one-time registration with automatic gifts, this may feel less rewarding.

Programs I Registered for but Didn’t Receive Physical Gifts From

For the following programs, I did complete the registration, but I did not receive any physical (mailed or in-store) gifts.

That said, these registrations were not pointless. Many of these platforms still offer real value in other ways — such as:

  • shopping discounts or digital coupons
  • parenting tips and pregnancy-related information
  • baby food ideas and age-appropriate recipes

If you enjoy reading childcare content, collecting coupons, or simply want to stay informed, these programs can still be worth registering for. Whether they are “worth it” depends more on what kind of support you personally find helpful, not just on whether a gift arrives in the mail.

My Conclusion

With just a little effort, you can end up with many pleasant surprises. Installing a few apps and registering on these websites is genuinely worth it.

Especially for first-time parents, these programs offer much more than free products. They also provide helpful information about pregnancy, newborn care, and everyday parenting in Germany.

If you have received additional free baby gifts that are not listed here, feel free to share your experience. I’m happy to update this article so more parents can benefit from accurate, up-to-date information.

Below are some common questions I’ve received — I’ll answer them all in one place.

Can you really get these baby gifts for free in Germany?

Yes — completely free.
All the gifts shown in the photos above were personally received by me.

Can foreigners or temporary residents in Germany participate?

Yes. As long as you have a stable mailing address in Germany, you can register and participate.

Do I need to provide a birth certificate or any official documents for my baby?

In my experience, no.
When registering and collecting these gifts, I was never asked to provide a birth certificate or any official baby documents. Only Lidl requires you to update your baby’s actual date of birth after delivery.

When is the best time to register to receive the most gifts?

You can start registering as soon as you’re pregnant.
That said, many parents prefer to register after around 12 weeks, once the pregnancy is more stable and the baby’s gender may already be known. This also makes it easier to choose a name — which is helpful, as some gifts (such as from Kaufland) are personalized with your baby’s name.

If you forgot to register earlier, or only found this article after your baby was born, don’t worry. Some programs still offer gifts after birth. You won’t know what’s available unless you try.

Do I need a German address?

Yes.
Most gifts are delivered by post, so a German mailing address is required.
